Many of the techniques that he teaches are from original ideas that he has developed over the past 40 years. These techniques have appeared in such places as Fly Fisherman magazine (one of the industry’s leading publications), ESPN, public television, Angling Report, and Outdoor Life, to name a few.

As an Associate Professor of Western Carolina University, Mac brought teaching fly fishing at the collegiate level in the mid-’90s.
