YouTube. DVDs. Books. Every visual resource for fly casting shares one universal flaw —

there is no direct feedback. Live video coaching fixes that.

The Most Accessible Fly Casting Instruction in the World

Live video fly casting coaching is one of the most effective methods available for improving your cast — and the technology available today makes it practically indistinguishable from standing next to an instructor on the bank. Using FaceTime, Skype, Facebook Messenger, or any video platform on your iPad or smartphone, Mac Brown watches your cast in real time, provides instant diagnostic feedback, and guides you through corrections that produce immediate improvement.

Mac began using live video coaching with casting clients around the globe several years ago — originally through Skype — and the results were significantly better than anticipated. The instantaneous feedback loop that video enables makes the session remarkably efficient. A correction suggested in real time lands differently than anything you could read or watch on your own. You feel the change, adjust immediately, and build the right movement pattern from the very first repetition.

This method has been used successfully to mentor students working toward their FFI Certified Instructor and Master Casting Instructor certifications — some of the most demanding casting standards in the sport. If it works at that level, it works at every level below it.

The Magic of Instant Diagnostic Feedback

Fly casting is a kinesthetic skill — it is learned through movement, feel, and the body's response to feedback. Most self-improvement resources for fly casting — YouTube videos, DVDs, books, online articles — are passive. You watch, you read, you try to translate what you observed into physical movement. The gap between watching and doing is where most improvement stalls.

Live video coaching closes that gap completely. Mac watches your cast as you make it, identifies the specific fault in real time, and provides the correction immediately — before the wrong movement has a chance to reinforce itself. Word pictures, audio cues, and instant visual feedback combine to produce improvement that sticks in a way that no passive resource can match.

The results from a fly casting modality study at Lee University illustrate just what is possible. A total beginner fly fisher received only twenty minutes of instruction — using word pictures and direct audio feedback through live video. By the end of the session she was hitting two out of three casts into a two-inch target cone at 35 feet. On her third attempt she landed within five inches of the target. These results were published in The Loop magazine — the journal of the international fly casting instructor community.

Twenty minutes. A complete beginner. A two-inch target at 35 feet. That is the power of direct feedback.

Who Live Video Coaching Is For

🌱

Beginners

Build the right foundation from your very first cast — before bad habits have a chance to set in. The most efficient way to start fly casting correctly is with immediate feedback from an expert instructor.

📈

Intermediate Casters

You have the basics but something is not clicking — distance, accuracy, timing, or a specific cast for a problem on the stream. Live video diagnosis finds the fault in minutes that years of self-correction couldn't.

🏆

Advanced & Certification Candidates

Anglers working toward FFI Certified Instructor or Master Casting Instructor certification. Mac has successfully mentored candidates to certification through live video coaching at the highest testing standard in the sport.

How It Works — Simple Setup, Immediate Results

1

Contact Us to Schedule

Call or email to book your session and discuss your goals, current skill level, and what you most want to improve. This conversation helps Mac prepare the most targeted session possible.

2

Choose Your Platform

FaceTime, Skype, Facebook Messenger, Zoom, or any video platform that works on your device. If you have a preferred platform just let us know. All you need is a smartphone or iPad with a decent camera.

3

Find Your Space

You need enough room to cast — a backyard, a park, a parking lot, or any open space works perfectly. A lawn is ideal. Set up your phone or tablet so Mac can see your full casting stroke from a clear angle.

4

Cast — Mac Watches and Coaches

The session runs exactly like an in-person lesson. You cast, Mac watches, he provides immediate feedback and corrections. You adjust, cast again, and feel the improvement in real time. Most participants experience dramatic improvement within the first 20 to 30 minutes.

5

Leave With a Practice Plan

Every session ends with a clear set of specific things to practice before the next session — so your improvement continues long after you put the phone down.
