Weather

The smaller stream fishing within a few minutes of town includes Deep Creek, Noland Creek, and Forney Creek all within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The new Delayed Harvest Section of the Tuckasegee River will have over 13,500 trout per mile right in the town of Bryson beginning in October. This will be incredible for float trips when it gets started with such a huge trout population.

Larger rivers like the Nantahala River and Delayed Harvest section on the Upper Nantahala River are only 30 minutes away. The Nantahala River is the best trout water in the state with wild fish reproduction. The Tuckasegee River in Dillsboro NC is 20 minutes away. It is also a delayed harvest stream with plenty of trout.

These larger streams offer ample opportunity to float fish from a boat. The guided float fishing trips enable you to reach many locations on the larger rivers that would be difficult to reach wade fishing. However, there are plenty of locations for the guided wade trips on these streams. The waters fluctuate on both the Nantahala and the Tuckasegee River.

Bryson City also has great locations for fly casting instruction to work out some kinks before you hit the streams. For those new to the sport of fly fishing, it is a good idea to start off with some very basic casting instruction before hitting the stream.
