Smoky Mountain Trout Fishing Guide Trips

Smoky Mountains trout fishing in the National Park is a huge boost for Swain County being claimed as a “Trout Capital”. Bryson City, NC is the “trout mecca” of the southeastern United States! With crown gems like Deep Creek, Hazel Creek, Forney Creek, Noland Creek, Twenty Mile Creek, and Cataloochee Creek on the NC side of the park. Experience fly fishing for wild trout in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with either an NC or a TN valid fishing license. We enjoy fishing the Little River on the TN side of the park during the winter months. Some of my greatest memories fly fishing the Smoky Mountains are from the park waters.

Trout Fishing Snowbird Creek in Winter -1989

Smoky Mountains trout fishing has many opportunities for the fly angler. Bryson City, NC is one of the top ten cities in the nation for outdoor adventure! Bryson City trout fishing offers numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation with several thousand miles of trout water. It attracted me back in 1987 to move full time into the Nantahala River gorge after hiking the Appalachian Trail.

Weather

The area is one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world. The sheer numbers of freshwater fish are second only to the Amazon rainforest. The town is nestled next to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park which makes up just over 40% of Swain County. The Nantahala National Forest encompasses much of the county as well. The reason it drew me to the area in 1987 was due to 85% of the county was government land. Now that is a huge playground for outdoor recreation. Most of the businesses in the county cater in one way or another to the draw of this huge playground.

Fly Fishing Guide Trips Year Round

The streams tend to have plenty of opportunistic wild fish on all of the streams. The challenging foliage and diverse currents tend to make the park streams a bit more technical. The popularity of the delayed harvest streams in NC have the park waters much less crowded. Guided wade trips for trout fishing in the Smoky Mountains are popular throughout the season and the trout colors tend to be the most spectacular in the region.
