Fly Line Study
The fly line study was conducted at WCU during my time there as an Associate Professor of fly casting & fly fishing in the mid-90’s. During my early years of fly fishing, I knew that all fly lines were not created equal.
The materials lab at Western Carolina University was invaluable for the studies. The results we see commonplace today include fly lines with ridges and sharkskin coatings. The info from the fly line study is in the pages under fly line articles.
Although the study was conducted in the mid 90’s, these same attributes are still just important today. Friction between the lines coatings and UV inhibitors for the plastics used. The elasticity of the fly line attributes. The densities of the fly lines tested.
