The Upper Nanty is one of the best BUG factories in all of Western North Carolina. I have many fond memories over the years of prolific hatches which is especially important for the dry fly fisherman during the Spring.

The Upper Nantahala River was the first Delayed Harvest in the state of North Carolina. I helped with the inception of the pilot program to become designated a Delayed Harvest stream. The Upper Nanty is still one of the most popular programs in the state hence the local economy thrives!

It is gratifying to witness the number of traveling fly fishers to the region because this never occurred prior to the Delayed Harvest. If you are looking for excellent pocket water fly fishing then the Upper Nanty should suffice!
